FAQs

The questions people actually ring and ask.

Answered plainly, with no claim made that you could not check yourself. If yours is not here, the landline is 01892 529997.

Who will actually come to the house?

Jim, or his son George, or both of them. This is a family-run firm rather than a company with a fleet, which is why every Google review names an individual rather than a brand. Whoever quotes your job is who carries it out.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

The business describes itself as a team of Gas Safe registered engineers, and all gas work is carried out to current regulations. As with any heating firm, the sensible thing is to ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card at the door: it lists exactly which appliances that person is signed off for and carries an expiry date, and you can check any registration yourself on the Gas Safe Register website. No registration number is published on this site because it should be verified at the door, not taken from a web page.

Do you do oil as well as gas?

Yes. Both gas and oil-fired central heating systems are covered — installation, replacement, upgrade and repair. Plenty of properties in the villages around Tunbridge Wells and over the Sussex border never got a mains gas connection, so oil is a normal part of the week rather than an exception.

Can you fit a bathroom, or only the plumbing in it?

A complete bathroom: the design conversation, the first-fix pipework, the electrical requirements that come with it, the sanitaryware, the shower, and the tiling. Tiles are fitted in porcelain, ceramic or natural stone. Having one firm do the lot is the reason bathroom jobs here do not stall waiting for a tiler.

Is underfloor heating only for new builds?

No. It goes into older houses as well as new ones — the questions are the floor build-up, the height you can afford to lose, the insulation underneath and whether the heat source can run at the lower flow temperature underfloor heating likes. Those get looked at on site before anything is quoted, because the answer genuinely varies house to house.

What is a pressurised hot water cylinder, and do I want one?

It is a sealed cylinder fed straight off the mains, so you get proper flow rates at every tap without a header tank in the loft and without a booster pump. Showers in particular are transformed. It needs an adequate mains supply and the right safety controls, which is why it is a survey-first job.

How much does a job cost?

There is no price list, because there is no honest way to price a boiler change or a bathroom from a web page. Quotes are free and given after someone has seen the house. You will have the figure before any work begins.

Do you guarantee the work?

The business offers a two-year guarantee on the work it carries out. Manufacturers' warranties on boilers and cylinders sit on top of that and are registered for you at commissioning.

What areas do you cover?

Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding parts of Kent and Sussex. The business's own description is a radius of around fifty miles from Tunbridge Wells, so Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Crowborough, Cranbrook, Edenbridge and Uckfield are all comfortably in. If you are further out, ring and ask.

When can I get hold of you?

Monday to Saturday, 8.00am to 4.30pm; closed on Sunday. During the day the engineers are on the tools, so if the landline rings out leave a message or send a WhatsApp and you will get a call back.

What should I do if I can smell gas?

Do not ring a heating engineer first. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away, turn the gas off at the meter if you can safely reach it, open the windows, leave the electrical switches alone and get everyone out of the building. Ring here afterwards to put right whatever caused it.
